We talk so much about women's empowerment, to be sure that women live the best life. Women empowerment means the growth of women in all the spheres of life like education, employment, health, safety, etc. It is very crucial for the economic and social progress of any country, also of that of the world.

The main idea of writing this article is to draw attention towards women's health care. We strongly recommend empowering women by ensuring their good health.

To have an understanding of women's health issues, we need to know the intricacy of the female reproductive system. It is the most complicated and important part contributing to the overall womanhood. A woman experiences so many changes in the body from puberty to adult age because of the reproductive system and chemical changes associated with it.

These chemical substances are known as hormones; essentially function as messengers of the body. These chemicals are secreted by endocrine glands, which are distributed throughout the body and control many physiological functions and psychological health. They are of great significance in maintaining a stable internal environment suitable for sustaining life.

The hormones are majorly classified into two groups: Peptide Hormones and Steroid Hormones.

Peptide hormones: The small chain of amino acids makes the hormone called peptide hormone. There is various type of peptide hormone, which circulates in the blood and binds to the receptors on targeted organs and tissues.

Peptide Hormones: In women, the chorionic gonadotropin and Luteinizing hormone are the peptide hormone produced through the ovaries or placenta. These two hormones play a primary position in female reproduction. Moreover, there is a hormone known as Human Chorionic gonadotropin (HCG), which is responsible for the proper development of an egg in an ovary and stimulates the release of the egg during ovulation.HCG manages ovulation and is useful in treating infertility in women. Luteinizing hormone is a hormone secreted by the anterior pituitary gland that stimulates ovulation in females and the synthesis of androgen in males. This hormone is considered a gonadotrophic hormone, as it controls the functions of the ovaries.

Steroid hormones are lipid-soluble molecules derived from cholesterol. The two varieties of steroid hormones encompass Corticosteroids and Sex hormones. The corticosteroids are produced within the adrenal cortex. At the same time, sex hormones are produced in gonads or placenta. The above hormones vary at all points of females' life, from the first menstrual cycle to menopause and in between. Pregnancy and motherhood particularly bring measurable shifts in the levels of progesterone and estradiol, and also in other hormones. These variations affect the body as a whole, including the central nervous system (CNS).

Each step of a woman's menstrual cycle is controlled by these hormones. Some menstrual problems associated with the hormonal imbalance are Premenstrual syndrome(PMS), irregular menstrual cycle, pelvic pain. Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) symptoms include irritability, nervousness, cramps, bloating, and headaches. Menstrual cramps at the onset of the menstrual flow, premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), polycystic ovary syndrome, endometriosis, hemochromatosis, PCOD, and leucorrhoea or white discharge.

At the onset of Menopause, women face difficulties like hot flashes, mood swings, vaginal dryness, diminished sexual desire, forgetfulness, trouble sleeping, and urinary incontinence.

Postmenopause women often have to deal with osteoporosis, cancer, and heart disease. Some more health problems like hearing loss, diminished vision, incontinence, arthritis, insomnia, memory loss, and sexual dysfunction are also seen post-menopause.

Let us understand the Symptoms of hormonal imbalances?

If you are experiencing symptoms like pelvic pain, cramps, bloating, headaches, hearing loss, diminished vision, insomnia, mood swings, irritability, nervousness, memory loss, depression, fatigue, hot flashes or night sweats, weight gain or sudden weight loss, constipation, puffy face or dry skin, weakened muscles, fibrosis, vaginal dryness, increased thirst and frequent urination, pain and stiff joints, Arthritis, thinning of hair and sexual dysfunction, that can be because of hormonal imbalance.

A blood test can confirm the imbalance in hormone levels like Estrogen, Progesterone, testosterone, thyroxine, TTH, insulin, and cortisol levels. Other symptoms can be confirmed by pelvic examination, Biopsy, ultrasound, or MRI.

A way to fix the hormonal imbalance problem?

Treatment for a hormonal imbalance will depend on what's the reason for it. There can be two approaches for treating the problems related to hormonal imbalance.

An indirect approach: Bringing changes in the lifestyle like practicing correct habits (not smoking, no alcoholism, and so on.), consumption of nutrient-rich meals (Phytoestrogenic foods, Fatty acid-rich foods, Protein-rich meals, Gut-supporting foods, Insulin-regulating foods), doing a physical workout (aerobics, meditation, and yoga) to strengthen the body muscles and additionally to reduce the stress level. Some alternative therapies like Acupuncture and Aromatherapy are also useful in treating a woman's hormone imbalance.

Direct Approach: is taking doctor-prescribed medication. The conventional medication can be disease-specific or symptom-specific. Some of the common treatment options in the case of females are Hormone replacement therapy (HRT), Oral contraceptives, Estrogen pill, Estrogen patch, Vaginal estrogen, Estrogen/Progesterone/Progestin hormone therapy, Thyroid hormone therapy.

Conventional vs. Natural way of treating hormonal imbalance:

Conventional medicines are effective and may show quick results too, but due to the synthetic ingredients in these medicines, they are more likely to have side effects. No one would like to bear the after treatment bad effects. More so, conventional medicines are expensive. So looking for a natural remedy that is effective and safe, becomes the need.
