Is Vitiligo Curable?

Vitiligo is a skin disorder recognized by white patches on the skin. It is caused primarily by an autoimmune disease as well as genetic factors. Certain chemicals, foods, or even stress can cause a flare-up of the condition.
Doctors say it is not a dangerous or contagious disease. Unlike any other disease, it causes no pain, discomfort, or organ damage. However, because of personal appearance, this disease harms social stigma.
Vitiligo can strike anyone, regardless of age, gender, or ethnicity. Scientists are working to find an answer to the question, "Is Vitiligo curable?" If not curable, Vitiligo is certainly manageable or controllable. However, treatment may be able to stop or slow the discoloration process, restoring some color to the skin.
Vitiligo symptoms include the following -
1. Prominent white patches on various body parts or in a specific area, such as the face, hands, or feet.
2. The size of the white patches grows over time.
3. Color shift on the inside of the mouth or nose.
4. Premature hair whitening on the head, eyelashes, brows, or face.
5. The patchy area itches.
6. The uvea, the colored portion of the eyes, swells.
7. The color shift in the eyes.
Vitiligo is of two types based on the distribution of white patches on the body -
Localized:-
The white patches in this type are limited to a specific part of the body. The three types of localized Vitiligo are focal, segmental, and mucosal.
1. Focal: Depigmentation is confined to a part.
2. Segmental: Patches are on both sides of the body.
3. Mucosal: Depigmentation is seen inside the mouth or on the genitals.
Generalized:-
The white patches in this type are not limited to a specific part of the body. Divided into three: Vulgaris, Acrofacial, and Universal.
1. Acrofacial: Depigmentation on the face, head, hands, and feet.
2. Vulgaris: Widely distributed scattered patches.
3. Universal: Depigmentation on the entire body occurs in this type.
There are numerous treatment options for it. That includes -
1. Restoring the color of depigmented skin.
2. Preventing new patches and spots from forming.
3. Removing any remaining pigment from your skin to even it out.
Let us see where medical science stands on this concern - Is Vitiligo curable?
There is reportedly no guaranteed cure for Vitiligo. However, Medical science has made significant progress in dealing with it, intending to develop a treatment that achieves uniform skin by either artificially pigmenting the patched area or Depigmenting the remaining skin. Camouflage therapy, re-pigmentation therapy, light therapy, and surgery are a few treatment options. The severity of the disorder determines which treatment method is required.
Reason for failure of depigmentation/ re-pigmentation procedures -
1. Skin without pigment is very vulnerable to sun damage because they lack melanocytes.
2. People report side effects, particularly skin redness, dryness, itching, and burning.
3. These therapies are costly.
4. The permanence of re-pigmentation is not guaranteed.
Some food choices and lifestyle changes that can help with Vitiligo -
Vitamin B12, C, and D, folic acid, zinc, copper, beta-carotene, aloe Vera, turmeric, and mustard oil are all favorable.
Staying hydrated, doing yoga, avoiding elastic or tight clothing, and managing stress are all positive lifestyle changes.
Herbal Treatment is another viable option in this regard -
Managing Vitiligo with herbs -
Herbalists recommend certain herbs to treat this disorder. Herbs effectively activate melanocytes to increase melanin production and enhance immune and nervous system function. To lessen oxidative stress, which damages melanocytes and has anti-inflammatory and Immuno-modulatory effects of slowing the spread.
